Ralph Breswitz:
From Madison Avenue to Main Street
A Tribute to an Extraordinary Rowayton Artist
May 30–August 31
Pinkney House Museum
The Historical Society will host a special art exhibit this summer featuring the works of Ralph Breswitz, who lived in Rowayton with his wife Olga for 55 years before passing away in April of 2009. |
Ralph Breswitz was an artist with an extraordinary range of ability and accomplishments, a man whose talents were obvious from a very early age. There seemed to be no area of art that Mr. Breswitz didn’t try and master. Photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, carving, etching, scrimshaw, cartooning, silk screening, wood block printing... even knife making are some of the fields he explored. Mr. Breswitz won multiple awards for his work in the advertising world, but until now, his art has never been shown in his home town.
On display at the Pinkney House Collected together for the first time are the fruits of a lifetime love affair with art... from years of work for many of the major NY advertising agencies to his photography and the art he created on his own time. Candid shots of such icons as Fidel Castro, Leonid Brezhnev, and Richard Nixon as well as informal shots of children playing on Bayley Beach and Roton Middle School are on display at the RHS, along with a treasure trove of other items. This is truly an eclectic collection that will interest Rowaytonites and world affairs followers alike.
The exhibit will open on May 30th, immediately following the Memorial Day Parade and will run through the end of August. Admission is free. The Museum will be open the first Sunday of every month from 2-4 pm throughout the summer, except during July, when it will be open July 11th in lieu of the July 4th holiday. Visits may also be arranged by appointment by emailing info@rowaytonhistoricalsociety.org. |
