As yet another beautiful Rowayton summer (despite Irene) draws to a close too quickly, it is a good time to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in such a wonderful seaside village. Once again we were treated to the many events that help make Rowayton such a special place to live. What other small community has so much to offer its residents including the sold out Comedy Night in May, the spectacular 4th of July fireworks over Long Island Sound (which I believe were the best to date), the amazing summer concert series, and, of course the River Ramble. The RCA and its many volunteers and co-sponsors were happy to bring these events to you this summer and we can’t thank you enough for your enthusiastic response as evidenced by the record attendance at every event!
May’s annual Comedy Night kicked off a great summer event season and a sold out crowd laughed the night away with three fantastic comedians. A big thanks to my co-chair, Jill Klein for all of the hard work and enthusiasm. The Memorial Day parade was its usual success and continues to be the best example of Rowayton pride. When the calendar finally hit late June, the end of school meant the start of lazy Sunday nights at Bayley Beach for the summer concert series. As evidenced by the record turnout, we had a wildly successful concert series. No matter where they take place, these concerts, brought to you by the RCA and our generous local business sponsors, would not have been possible without the efforts of the summer music concert committee: Chris Sovak, Matt Manley, Andy Meyerson, and Brendan McGee.
The River Ramble once again set records for crowds and would not have been possible without the leadership of Carlyn Paynter and Ali Kreiter as well as the countless volunteers, all who dedicated tons of time and talent. In addition to the fireworks, parades and concerts, the RCA is able to fund other community initiatives through our major fundraisers which were again a success thanks in part to the many volunteers who come out each year to lend a hand. Whether you’re new to town or have been here a while, please reach out to volunteer for any event that strikes your fancy. The work isn’t too hard, you’ll meet new friends, and I promise you that you’ll have a great time!
Even though the summer is drawing to a close, the RCA event calendar is still in full swing. September 23rd marks our second house tour, which will feature homes in the beautiful Beach Association.
In addition to our community programs, the RCA offers financial support to local organizations through our discretionary grant program. Approximately 20% of the RCA’s budget goes to these discretionary grants to help fund programs such as The Rowayton Library, the schools and the Rowayton Art Center. As a result of the extensive efforts of our volunteers, the operating budget of the RCA is only 3.5% of the total budget with the rest allocated to community events such as soccer, fireworks and the summer concerts. Every contribution counts, and I invite you to support the RCA by visiting our website at www.rowaytonct.com and donating online.
Thank you for all your help and I hope to see you all soon,
